Overview
In September 2026, HELLO Trust Guangzhou held an educational session for 18 children aged 7–9 at 红棉社区花都活动室, a newly established community space operated by 小禾. The session was designed to combine English language learning with creative expression, giving children the opportunity to engage with new vocabulary through both instruction and hands-on artistic activity.
Session Structure
Eight HELLO Trust members led the initiative. The session was divided into two main components: a language learning segment and a creative art activity.
The first segment focused on teaching simple nature-related English vocabulary. Members introduced foundational words through direct instruction and interactive activities, ensuring that children could understand and retain the new terms before moving on to the practical portion of the session.
Creative Art Activity
Following the language lesson, the team organised an art activity. Children were provided with leaves and flowers collected from the roadside, along with additional art materials, and were encouraged to create their own original works.
Once their artworks were completed, each child described their piece using the English vocabulary they had learned earlier in the session. This step allowed participants to apply their new knowledge in a practical and personal way, reinforcing both language retention and confidence in self-expression.
Outcomes
The initiative was structured to ensure that learning and creativity worked hand in hand. By the end of the activity, every child had produced their own piece of art and practised describing it in English.
The session reflects HELLO Trust Guangzhou's ongoing commitment to supporting children in underserved communities through accessible and engaging educational programmes. It also provided HELLO Trust members with valuable experience in teaching, event organisation, and community engagement.
