The Tree of Tomorrow: a HELLO Trust Roorkee Community Day

On 21 September 2026, HELLO Trust Roorkee hosted a Community Day at Blooming Buds School in Roorkee, bringing together approximately 35 children and five HELLO Trust team members for five hours of conversation, creativity, games, and teamwork.


The programme was built around a simple idea: “The Tree of Tomorrow — Every Child Leaves a Mark.” The theme encouraged children to think about kindness, sharing, helping others, and working together, while recognising that even small actions can contribute to a caring and supportive community.


Starting with the Community



The session began with an icebreaker called “One Thing About Me,” giving the children an opportunity to introduce themselves, become comfortable with the HELLO Trust team, and begin sharing and listening to one another.


The team then led a discussion on “What Makes a Good Community?” Children were encouraged to consider how people treat one another and what makes a classroom welcoming. They shared their own ideas about helping others, being kind, sharing, and working together.


Through “What Would You Choose?”, the children were also presented with simple everyday situations and asked how they would respond. The activity connected positive values with practical decisions and encouraged children to listen to different perspectives from their classmates.


The Tree of Tomorrow



The central activity of the day was The Tree of Tomorrow, a creative exercise designed to turn the children's ideas about a positive community into a shared visual creation.


A large tree was drawn on the classroom blackboard using chalk. The trunk and branches represented the community the children shared, while the leaves represented the positive values and actions they wanted to contribute.


Children were invited to share their own words, ideas, values, and actions. As they contributed, each idea became another chalk leaf on the tree.


Gradually, individual ideas became part of one shared picture. The activity gave the children a simple way to see how their individual contributions can come together to create something larger.


The message behind the activity was straightforward: every child has something to contribute, and every contribution can make a difference.


From Ideas to Action



Following the Tree of Tomorrow, the children took part in “My Leaf, My Action.” They reflected on how the values represented on the tree could translate into everyday behaviour, considering what helping, sharing, and kindness could look like in their own classrooms.


The team then introduced “Build the Future Together,” a group challenge focused on cooperation. Children were encouraged to listen to one another, take turns, and contribute towards a shared goal.


Games, drawing, and other creative activities were incorporated throughout the programme to keep the session engaging and accessible. These activities gave children different ways to participate, whether through speaking, listening, creating, playing, or working with others.


Every Child Leaves a Mark


Throughout the Community Day, approximately 35 children participated in conversations, creative activities, games, and group exercises. The programme gave them opportunities to express their ideas, explore positive values, and consider how their actions affect the people around them.


The completed Tree of Tomorrow became more than a classroom drawing. It represented the central message of the day: communities grow through the contributions of their members, and small acts of kindness, sharing, and support can become part of something much larger.


For HELLO Trust Roorkee, the Community Day was an opportunity to create a space where children could participate, express themselves, and explore what it means to contribute positively to the community around them.


Every child leaves a mark. The question is what kind of mark we choose to leave.
