The start of a new academic year is always filled with enthusiasm. On September 30, 2024, a delightful event was held in a bakery workshop, uniting Shenzhen and Hong Kong HELLO Trust members for the first time in a big annual event, along with kindergarteners from 香港怡寶幼稚園. The workshop was led by Crystal Chan and Kristie Fu, creating an atmosphere of excitement and creativity.

The volunteers arrived with great passion and anticipation just before the event began, ready to prepare for the fun ahead. At 12 PM, the kindergarten students arrived successively, their faces were bursting with joy and excitement as they gathered for the cupcake-making workshop. To start the activity right away, K2 and K3 children were organized into three large benches according to their classes. Each volunteer paired up with two children to make one batch of cupcakes. After washing their hands, the bakery staff guided them through the steps, starting with adding oil and milk to the mixing bowl. The kids giggled as they sifted flour and mixed in crushed Oreos, feeling excited to see their batter come together.

The atmosphere intensified when it was time to separate the egg yolks and whites. They watched in awe as the egg whites transformed into fluffy peaks, working together during the mixing process. After carefully folding the egg whites into the batter, they filled piping bags with the mixture and placed them in the oven.

Meanwhile, a batch of Chiffon cake was prepared as a snack for the children, allowing the volunteers time to engage and bond with their assigned kids and help them to develop communication skills, especially with someone whom they are unfamiliar.

Once the golden-brown cupcakes emerged from the oven, they were distributed back to the groups, including the piping bag with colored cream for decoration as well. Children elevated their creativity and expressed their thoughts and confidence. The cream flew out in a spiral, forming a delicate peak on top. The room was filled with astonished gasps as each child admired their handiwork. It was a moment of pure joy as every kid proudly presented their own cupcake. Imagine how jubilant it was.

Throughout the event, children were fully engaged and focused into the baking process, collaborating and communicating effectively with the volunteers, who also ensured that children had gained a remarkable experience as well as a sense of accomplishment and skill mastery in an enjoyable and interactive way. The event not only created tasty treats but also developed a sense of community among everyone involved.
