On Monday October the 7th, Harrow Appi Japan’s Hello Trust had hosted the second bake sale in school. We had decided to create this bake sale to raise money for Unicef; and we chose to do this event at the end of the first half term as a way for students to connect with the community of our school as well as introduce the Hello Trust organisation to new pupils. We believe it is very important to engage students in the opportunities of service outside of academics and the Hello Trust is a great way to contribute to our community of Harrow students.

In this bake sale we chose to bake : cheesecake, chocolate chip cookies, chocolate cookies and brownies. We also asked teachers to bring in some baked goods which we sold along with the ones members in the organisation baked. Students in Hello Trust all gathered on a Sunday in school where we baked and prepped for the event on the next day. On the day of baking, everything went smoothly from the mixing of creamy delicious cheesecake batter to the placing of cookies on the trays. The ingredients were all decided by members of the Hello Trust and were all approved by online recipes.

On Monday the next day, we had set up the stalls with a picnic lining of the tables in the fresh air. Immediately after class, students rushed to the stalls outside of the cafeteria and waited in line eagerly waiting to taste the delicious treats. The smell of cookies and baked goods flowed through the cold autumn air and students gathered to purchase and taste the treats. The bake sale in the end was very successful as not only did we raise a total of 80,000 yen for UNICEF we also sold out everything we had baked! All members of the Appi Hello Trust participated in selling during the period of lunch. The cookies and cheesecake were by far the most sought after products; we will be making this into an annual event where students can enjoy the bake sale this time of year.
